Fuat Sezgin’s Activities at the Institute for Islamic Studies (Some Archive Documents at Istanbul University Research Center for Islamic Studies)

The archival sources at Istanbul University Center for Islamic Studies, previously known as the Institute for Islamic Studies, have been revised and registered during the Summer of 2019. Digitalization of the archive documents is still in progress. There are approximately 150 archive documents which are in direct connection with Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin. This paper elaborates on some examples from those documents, which are particularly related with Prof. Sezgin’s academic and administrative activities during his tenure at the Institute. Evaluation of these documents provides the readers with a unique opportunity to comprehend Prof. Sezgin’s contribution in the establishment of the Institute’s library, İslam Tetkikleri Dergisi –its main publication– as well as its international networks.
