Abstract :
A theoretical model is developed for the power amplification in semiconductor optical amplifier( SOA) taking into account the effect of first and second order four-wave mixing (FWM) in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. A generalized equation of pulses propagation in SOA has been modified to take into account the generation of the two orders. The derivation of this equation takes into account the presence of both interband and intraband effects. The equation is solved numerically regarding the primary conditions of the problem. The effect of second order FWM products in SOA are studied and compared with the effect of first order four-wave mixing products. Results show that the behavior of second-order FWM products in SOA is similar to the behavior of first order FWM products. Their effect on original channels increased but not more than the effect of the first order in case of high input power and small frequency spacing
