Abstract :
In Turkey, for cultural reasons, one of the most important events in the course of life is marriage and it also triggers the migration behavior of the individuals. In the period from 1995 to 2000, 7.4% of total migration in Turkey was marriage-related. Marriage migration is largely gender-specific and women account for 94% of those who migrate for marriage. The present study focused the spatial patterns of marriage migration relationship in Turkey. In the study the geographical patterns of the women and men marriage migration for the periods of 1995- 2000 according to the different statistical regions are being analyzed. Using the Exploring Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) methods (Moran’s I and LISA), how the space is effective in women and men marriage migration is attempted to be analyzed. In the central and northern regions of the country, female marriage migration; and in the western regions of the country, male migration shows a positive spatial autocorrelation.
