  • Abstract
In this study, generations of Turkish geographers have been identified to illuminate the disciplinary history. Here, scholars have been defined by using a cohort approach. By taking into account standard Ph.D period, number of generations identified. Results show that Turkish geography is represented by 18 generations since 1915. Tendencies of generations show that geography has experienced a maturity period up to the 9th generation, it has grown and expanded since the 14th generation, there is no linear relationship between the number of members of generations and their productivity, and the generations in the peripherial universities experienced a period of maturation. It is concluded that the 3rd generation in Turkish geography had a great weight and created a sort of path-dependency which started to change by the first half of the 2000s and it seems that the trends of innovation in the discipline are essentially confined to the last 3 generations.
