Abstract :
Greenspace campaign regulates urban air quality and global warming effects. Four areas with trees planting (TP: Ojota-Ketu, Anthony, Costain and Airport-Agege) and non-trees planting (NP: Mile 12, Jibowu, Ojuelegba and Iyana-ipaja) were selected considering traffic volumes. Gaseous pollutants: CO, CO_2, NO_x, SO_2, VOC; SPM and noise levels; meteorological conditions: O_2 and Temperature in the selected areas were assessed to be TP and NP were CO: 3.76 ± 1.23 and 4.70 ± 1.59 μg/ m^3, CO_2: 8.39 ± 1.50 and 14.68 ± 2.62 μg/ m^3, NO_2: 1.94 ± 0.84 and 2.57 ± 1.11 μg/ m^3, SO_2: 0.32 ± 0.54 and 0.46 ± 0.77 μg/ m^3, VOC: 2.08 ± 0.65 and 2.60 ± 1.66 μg/m^3, SPM: 101.5 ± 26.19 and 189.34 ± 48.99 μg/ m^3, Temp.: 41.25 ± 6.92 and 45.38 ± 7.26 ◦C, O_2: 28.25 ± 2.74 and 21.73 ± 2.09 %, and Noise: 93.75 ± 37.21 and 112.50 ± 44.65 dB. Gaseous pollution levels were below the standards at the TP. Levels of SPM were generally lower but Temperature was higher than the limit. Greenspace significance to improve urban air quality and abate global warming was observed.
