Abstract :
Seven compounds have been isolated and characterized from Syzygium aromaticum namely oleanolic acid lactone (1),ß-sitosterol (2),nigricin (3),flavaellagic acid (4),2a- hydroxyoleanolic acid (5),3ß-hydroxy-11- oxo-olean-12-en-28-oic acid (6) and ß-sitosterol 3-O-ß- D-glucopyranoside (7). Compounds 1,3,4 and 6 are reported for the first time from the genus Syzygium whereas compounds 2,5 and 7 are known constituents from this source.
