Abstract :
In the Ottoman Empire, the gedik is a term used in military, administrative, economic and legal fields in different meanings. Gedik, at the same time which is Islamic law concept, regulated as a right of disposal or a limited right in legal resources. In Ottoman practice, gedik expressed a privilege or prerogative, which is held in the trades section, especially after the 18th century, out of the meaning of the right of disposal in Islamic law. In this article development, repeal and legal or economic meaning, as commonly used by tradesman in the Ottoman Empire, of gedik will be discussed.
