Abstract :
Today, bariatric surgery is used not only for obese patients who meet the criteria but also for patients who do not respond to other treatment options and who are at risk for obesity related diseases. Effective and holistic nursing care is important for the success of bariatric surgery. Nursing care needs to be based on individual differences and needs due to after surgery complications and accompanying diseases. Henderson s Nursing Theory, which is based on the basic human needs, enables nursing care to be carried out in a holistic manner. In this article, nursing care of a patient who underwent bariatric surgery was examined according to Henderson s Nursing Theory. It is thought that the theory can be effective in reducing the complications of planning and application of nursing care in patients undergoing bariatric surgery and ensuring adaptation to lifestyle change. At the same time, it is foreseen that the care of obese patients may contribute to better understanding of nurses and improve the quality of care.
