Endoscopic endonasal surgery to manage the lateral sphenoid recess spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leak related to sternberg’s canal

The cribriform plate, the posterior table of the frontal sinus, or the pneumatized lateral recess of the sphenoid sinus are common locations for spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. We reported 4 cases of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak related to Sternberg’s canal with 4 different types. Endonasal surgery was applied to repair CSF leak with a multilayer’s technique by transpterygoid or trans-ethmoid-sphenoid approach. No recurrence was recorded during the follow-up time. The possibility of Sternberg’s canal in patients with lateral sphenoid recess CSF rhinorrhea should be considered. Currently, this surgery technique at Ho Chi Minh city Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital is used effectively in managing CSF leaks.
