New Positive-Type Photosensitive Poly(phenylene ether): Poly(2-hydroxy-6-methylphenolco-2,6-dimethylphenol) with Diazonaphthoquinone

Reaction of TiCl4 with three equivalents of Me3SiSPy (SPy = pyridine-2-thiolate) cleanly gave a tris(thiolate) complex, TiCl(SPy)3. THF (1). The pentagonal bipyramidal geometry of 1 was revealed by X-ray crystallography. This complex showed catalytic activity for the polymerization of ethylene and styrene upon activation with methylaluminoxane.
