A simple method for measuring the refractive index of Ta plate

A simple and reliable method for measuring the refractive indices of plate samples is introduced. The method exploits the maximum separation distance of the beams reflected from the surfaces of the plate. The precision of the technique is comparable by that is obtained for prism samples using available techniques. The technique can be also applied to liquids and gases at high pressures.
