Abstract :
Richard Booth is a Fellow of The Institute of Materials and is the Honorary Secretary of the Ceramic IndustryDivisionʹs Whitewares Sector Committee. He has spent the whole of his working life in ceramics manufacturing, having joined the heavy clay industry (Hepworth plc) after leaving school. He obtained a first class honours BSc in ceramic technology from the then North Staffordshire College of Technology. In 1970 he moved into pottery manufacture and, apart from a three year period in research and development in building materials, has worked in this sector of the industry since. then, holding a number of production and operational management posts. In 1998 he retired from his position of Operations Director for The Denby Group plc, but was still retained by that company as a technical consultant at the time of presenting this lecture. BCT/429
