Abstract :
In this article, we review recent progress in the area of biological macromolecular sensors and we present several research activities aimed at achieving such a device. Here we distinguish sensors from assays - the former describing devices capable of continuous monitoring and real-time detection, the latter describing devices and techniques for analysis of a single sample. We give examples of both types of detector below. We conclude by focusing on a specific device we are developing in our laboratory, based upon imparting molecular recognition to a field-effect transistor as an example of current development strategies in the field.
