Abstract
The evaluation of the total life cycle costs of
underground cable alternatives is an important analysis
performed by distribution engineers. While it is a
straightforward application of engineering economics, it
must avoid significant distortions and deal effectively with
uncertainty.
The unique procedure described herein uses a simple,
yet rigorous, approach for addressing future replacement
costs and avoiding length of study period distortion when
different lives are being considered. In addition, a concise
and informative way of dealing with the &or uncertainty
- that of projected cable life - is included.
