Abstract
The capability of Controllable Shunt and Series Compensators
to modulate the real power flow in integrated ACiDC systems
has been investigated and compared. The linearized state space
equations of the system have been included in a load flow program
and the change of the real power flow per change of the reactive or
both active and reactive power in the compensating equipment has
been calculated in specified locations of the system. This investigated
capability of the controllable compensators is depended on the
kind of the compensators connection (series or shunt) and the basic
variables of the system it influences and it is not related to the technical
problem of exploiting this capability. The influence of the load
and compensator location, the load characteristics and the equivalent
system impendance on the power flow control effectiveness has
been presented and commented on a test system.
