Abstract
This paper reports on Advanced Series Compensator
(ASC) models suitable for large-scale power flow studies. The ASC
models are developed in phase coordinates and incorporated into
an existing polyphase Newton–Rapshon power flow algorithm.
The ASC state variables are combined with the nodal voltage magnitudes
and angles of the network in a single-frame of reference
for highly robust and unified iterative solutions. Analysis of the
ASC performance is carried out in both balanced and unbalanced
power network operating conditions. The electrical interaction
between the ASC phases is considered in order to define a feasible
active power control region. Test results are presented to show the
prowess of the ASC models.
