Abstract :
This paper presents the performance study of several
compensation schemes for a line-commutated SCR converter
operating under a wide range of dc voltage. The studied reactive
power and harmonic compensation schemes include passive filters,
active filters, and hybrid compensation methods for a SCR
interfaced permanent magnet generator based variable speed
wind turbine. The effectiveness of the compensation schemes
has been investigated in terms of reactive power and harmonics.
The required compensation current ratings of these schemes are
presented. The effects of higher pulse number of the converter
on the compensation schemes are also considered.
