Abstract :
New notions in the theory of power are introduced for periodic current and voltage
waveforms. The definition of apparent power- is changed. Total apparent power S, fictitious power Q,
and power factor cos cp are defined for distorted current and voltage waveforms. The main advantage
of such a proposition of power theory is the elimination of distortion power and scattered power.
Example calculations were carried out for a series RL system supplied by a rectangular voltage.
Conditions Tor the optimal compensation of reactive power of a RLC series system by a parallel RLC
system were detcrmincd with a proposed powcr tlicory application.
