Abstract :
The concentional material used ti)r militan parade squares in Singapore is dense asphaltic concrete, which is the black material used commonly in road pacing. In recent rears red coloured concrete interlocking hlocks have also been used/or the parade squares and senʹ ice roads in selected military camps. For the Singapore Armed Forces Military Institute (SM!) complex. the De/ence Ministry has decided to use alternative palʹing materials (granite and concrete with exposed aggregates) to enhance the aesthetics. ambience and thermal enrironment of the Institute. In this paper the study conducted to elʹaluate the use or these materials for a parade square in outdoor conditions in the hot tropics is reported. In particular, thl! parʹement serciceability for thermal and glare comfort, and troop marching-suitabilitr are naluated
