Abstract :
The paper reports on the results of an investigation into the physical and strength properties, as well as shrinkage deformation characteristics, of laterized concrete, with varying percentages of laterite content. Fifteen 10 cm×10 cm×40 cm laterized concrete sealed and unsealed short columns were under investigation for 90 days. The percentage content of laterite in fine aggregate varied from 0–100% in steps of 25%. The results of the investigation showed that the shrinkage strain of laterized concrete is several times greater than that of normal concrete depending on the laterite content. 25% laterite content of fine aggregate was recommended for use in load-bearing structural elements.
