Soda-AQ pulp blends from kenaf and sunflower stalks

The physical, fibre and chemical characteristics of Sudanese kenaf have been studied. Soda-anthraquinone (AQ) pulping trials with whole kenaf stalk gave higher yield and quality of pulp with less alkali consumption than did the reference soda pulping. Different blends of soda-AQ pulps from sunflower and kenaf were prepared resulting in considerable improvement of the sunflower-pulp properties.
