Abstract :
The paper presents the design, development and performance evaluation of an analog fiber optic link. It also describes the way the link was implemented as part of an approved high-voltage impulse measuring system, replacing the coaxial cable between the capacitive divider and the recording site. This link proved to have a large bandwidth of 105 MHz combined with a linearity of 0.6% and a very low cost. Results from tests were compared with those taken with the same measuring system using the coaxial cable for transmitting the impulses. The comparison shows that the measuring system with the optical link is better than the approved one with regard to important parameters, such as the response time and the steepness of the voltage collapse.
