Induced Resistance in Cucumbers against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum and Rhizoctonia solani AG2–2 by Infection of the Cotyledons

Localized infection in cucumber cotyledons with Colle- totrichum lagenarium induced resistance against infec- tion after challenge inoculation with Rhizoctonia solani AG2±2 and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum in the roots. The plants were unprotected in soil that was infested heavily with R. solani or in contact with the mycelium, and induced resistance was not observed. Wounding of the root also negated the e€ect of induced resistance to F. oxysporum.
