  • Abstract
The effects of absorption are incorporated into Kirchhoff migration. The aim is to reconstruct the structures with true-amplitude seismic data and to increase the resolution of migrated data. A complex wave velocity is introduced into the solution of the Helmholtz equation, the starting point of Kirchhoff migration. This leads to an additional filter, the antidissipation operator, which is convolved with the wave field. The general structure of Kirchhoff migration remains unchanged. The effects of the antidissipation operator are illustrated on synthetic data. The new operator is valid for complex media with varying velocity and varying quality factor Q. Moreover there is no limitation to constant-Q, frequency-dependent Q can also be handled. The success of anelastic migration depends on how well the Q macro model is known.
