On the provision of product quality by a labor-managed monopolist

The behavior of a labor-managed monopolistic firm is described in a model of vertical product differentiation. It is shown that the distortion usually associated with the output level is actually much higher on the quality side, so that the LM (labor-managed) monopolist produces the same quantity as the PM (profit-maximizing) monopolist, but the good being supplied is characterized by a significantly lower quality.
