Upward bias in the consumer price index under the zero-inflation economy

This study estimates the demand system using Japanese microdata and calculates the cost of living index (COLI). In the recent zero-inflation situation, the consumer price index (CPI) can approximate the COLI, while there are upward biases in the CPI during the 1980s.
