Offensive performance, omitted variables, and the value of speed in baseball

This paper critiques from an economic perspective published results on the value of base stealing in baseball. Augmenting previous specifications for the “production function” for runs parallels the control—a simulation study imposed on teamsʹ overall footspeed, recovering economically sensible results.
