Abstract :
The handling of hot objects by robots and resulting transient and quasi-steady State temperature distributions in the robotic hand and arm are studied in this paper. A contact resistance between the robotic hand and the hot object is assume. The robotic hand, when not in contact, transfers heat by conduction and convection to the surrounding medium. The robotic hand is periodically in contact with the hot object. In this study, an integral equation for the temperature-time history of the tip of the robotic hand is obtained. This integral equation is solved numerically for the robotic hand tip temperature. The results of calculations for the tip temperature of the robotic hand, while it is periodically in contact with the hot object, are reported and discussed.
