Abstract :
A simple and effective reaction-sintering process for Sr0.995Ce0.95Y0.05O3−δ and BaCe0.9Nd0.1O3−δ solid electrolyte ceramics was investigated in this study. Without any calcination involved, the mixture of raw materials was pressed and sintered directly. Sr0.995Ce0.95Y0.05O3−δ ceramics with 98.4% of the theoretical density were obtained after being sintered at 1350 °C for 2 h. A total conductivity 1.42 mS cm−1 at 900 °C could be obtained in Sr0.995Ce0.95Y0.05O3−δ sintered at 1500 °C for 4 h. BaCe0.9Nd0.1O3−δ ceramics with 91.7% of the theoretical density were obtained after being sintered at 1500 °C for 2 h. A total conductivity 11.54 mS cm−1 at 900 °C could be obtained in BaCe0.9Nd0.1O3−δ sintered at 1350 °C for 6 h. The reaction-sintering process has proven a simple and effective method to obtain useful Sr0.995Ce0.95Y0.05O3−δ and BaCe0.9Nd0.1O3−δ ceramics for solid electrolyte applications in solid oxide fuel cells.
