Abstract :
stability of an inflated and extended cylindrical elastic membrane is studied by using an energy stability criterion. Three types of loading devices are considered, that control the internal pressure, the mass of enclosed gas, and the volume of enclosed fluid, respectively. Four boundary conditions are considered for different end clamping conditions. The stability conditions are derived and compared for twelve combinations of these loading devices and boundary conditions. 0 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
