Abstract :
A rod theory is developed for long waves in an elastic circular cylinder with cylindrical anisotropy. Detailed results for flexural waves and cylindrical orthotropy are given. The theory uses the method of Frobenius in the radial direction so that the equation of motion is satisfied exactly. Then, the equations arising from the lateral boundary condition are truncated properly, leading to a rod theory. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
