Abstract
The micro heat exchangers or micro reactors in miniature chemical and thermal systems entail the design know-how of
microchanneled plates or miniaturized multichannel passages with fins. With the increase of temperature and pressure in
the chemical and thermal systems, the design of the miniature components against creep failure becomes a primary concern.
To develop a simplified design method, the time-dependent deformation and stresses of the plate–fin structures are
analyzed by assuming the fins as elastic springs. Using the numerical inversion of Laplace transform and the standard linear
solid model, the analytic expressions of the deformation and stresses are derived. The feasibility and accuracy of the
method are verified by a comparison of the analytical results with finite element simulations.
