The silicone-injected breast and its dilemmas

Many women who were subjected to liquid silicone injections for breast augmentation have, over time, fallen victims to complications. The greatest problem is masking of possible carcinoma in the injected breast by silicone granulomas which can make interpretation of both physical findings and mammography difficult. This may lead to a dilemma in terms of distinguishing or excluding the diagnosis of breast carcinoma and in treating the inherent problems of silicone-induced mastopathy.
