Abstract :
Three gratifications derived from the television remote control device (RCD; Content Avoidance, Viewing Satisfaction, Control of Others) were examined as a function of three personality types (extraversion, neuroticism, psychoticism) and respondent sex using a large sample of young adults (males, n = 354; females, n = 281). The findings revealed significant differences in RCD perceptions between the three personality types. Consistent with previous research, the findings also revealed that male respondents reported significantly more positive perceptions of the RCD than females.
