Abstract :
This paper presents some preliminary results from the Bulgarian adaptation of the Coolidge Axis II Inventory (CATI)—a self-report instrument assessing personality disorders as defined by the DSM-III-R criteria. Translated items were administered to a pilot sample of 216 non-clinical adults (M = 28.0, SD = 11.0) and an item-analysis of data called for some changes in the CATI item pool. A second sample of 549 subjects drawn from the same population (M = 21.8, SD = 6.1) was tested with the corrected and augmented version of the questionnaire. The 13 personality disorder scales of the CATI-B demonstrated a mean internal consistency (Cronbachʹs alpha) of 0.79 and an average test-retest reliability (3–4 weeks interval) of 0.86. A scale-level factor analysis revealed a three-dimensional structure of the questionnaire that was compared with that obtained in a U.S. study (Coolidge & Merwin, 1992). A comparison of the CATIʹs factor structure across Bulgarian and U.S. studies, based on Kaiser, Hunka and Bianchiniʹs method (1971), provided high estimates of the between-studies factor relationships.
