Abstract :
The current study compared two self-report measures of sensation seeking as predictors of alcohol use among Australian high school adolescent males. Zuckermanʹs (1979) Sensation Seeking Scale was compared to Arnettʹs recently developed (1994) Inventory of Sensation Seeking (AISS) as predictors of frequency and quantity measures of alcohol use, including a measure of binge drinking. The findings suggest the need for intensity of stimulation accounts for the relationship between sensation seeking and alcohol use. These results also extend the documented relationship between sensation seeking and alcohol use to an Australian adolescent male population.
