Translation, validation, and adaptation of an instrument to assess the information-seeking style of coping with stress: the Spanish version of the Miller Behavioral Style Scale

The author presents the translation, validation, and adaptation of the Miller Behavioral Style Scale (MBSS) to be used with Spanish-speaking individuals. Results of the Spanish version of the MBSS (MBSS-S) are similar to those obtained with the original instrument. The MBSS-S shows good test-retest values and appropriate alpha coefficients. Our work also shows that a reduced version (MBSS-SR) can be used without distorting the results that would be obtained with the complete scale. Scientists interested in transcultural work will benefit by using the MBSS-S as well as the MBSS-SR.
