Abstract :
Data on National Lottery (NL) entry and personality, assessed by the California Psychological Inventory are presented for a nationally representative sample. Five hypotheses about personality and NL entry are tested. As predicted, frequency of NL entry is related to lower self control, lower intellectual efficiency, lower capacity for status, lower achievement via independence and lower responsibility. Data are also presented for the CPIʹs vectors and for the ‘big five’.
