Abstract :
The purpose of this pilot study is to validate the use of the Perceptions of Restraint Use Questionnaire (PRUQ) in assessing chemical restraint perceptions among nurses working in long-term care. The convenience sample includes 60 licensed nurses working in six long-term care facilities in Illinois. The reliability analysis for a modified version of the PRUQ, based on the research sample chosen, was found to have a Cronbachʹs coefficient alpha of .9450. Study findings reflect a moderately positive attitude toward chemical restraint use by nurses in long-term care.
