Toxoplasmosis masking non-Hodgkinʹs lymphoma: a case report

A 39-year-old female with persistent cervical lymphadenopathy is reported. Initial investigations resulted in a diagnosis of toxoplasmosis, but subsequently the patient proved to have high grade immunoblastic non-Hodgkinʹs lymphoma. This paper highlights the difficulties in accurately diagnosing some cases of either toxoplasmosis or lymphoma, and briefly mentions some of the ongoing technical advances which will increase diagnostic specificity and sensitivity by early detection of genetic mutations.
