Abstract
A revised thermodynamic description of the Ti–C system is presented. The main amendment introduced in the present work is a new description of the thermochemistry of the TiC1−x carbide. The properties of stoichiometric TiC were determined from experimental information on the enthalpy of formation, the heat content and the heat capacity of stoichiometric TiC. Phase diagram information and carbon activity measurements were used to describe the interaction parameters of the TiC1−x phase. Calculations are compared with experimental information.
