Abstract :
The Simulation Index-Revised (SI-R) was previously developed to differentiate impaired motivation from traumatic brain injury sequelae in patients referred for neuropsychological assessment. Rather than using quantitative comparisons of performance, the SI-R evaluates qualitative errors on the WAIS-R and WMS. The present study examined the specificity of the SI-R in a clinical sample of 338 patients of mixed diagnoses. The overall level of specificity was 62% in this sample. Patient groups with diagnoses of schizophrenia, vascular dementia, and alcohol dependence had lower specificity than did the mean of the entire sample. The need for additional studies and SI-R item analyses are discussed.
