Wind-powered MVC seawater desalination -- operational results

On the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea, a wind-powered seawater desalination demonstration plant has been in operation since 1995. It is a full-size plant, with an output capacity of potable water of 15 m3/h at a wind energy production of 300 kW. This field test shows excellent results in operational properties as well as low maintenance costs. The plant is running automatically. It can be controlled also by modem from a distant central station.
