Improvement in the counting statistics and in the limit of detection with Compton suppression spectrometers—a contribution to instrumental neutron activation analysis

An analytical description of improvements in the counting statistics and in the limit of detection obtained with Compton suppression methods in instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is described. The experimental data, deduced from the INAA of air filters, show the advantage of counting systems where the samples are placed outside the Compton shields.
