Abstract
Uranium and thorium contents in different building material samples have been evaluated by using a method based on combining the solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) technique with a calculational method. A new method has been developed based on calculating the stopping powers of the studied materials for the α-particles emitted by the uranium and thorium series and exploiting the uranium and thorium contents of the studied materials for evaluating the corresponding global alpha doses. The emanation coefficient for radon in the building materials studied has been determined.
