Preparation of uranium targets by electroplating

In order to produce 99Mo for medical purposes it is necessary to provide suitable uranium targets. In this work, uranium targets were prepared as uranium oxides films were deposited on the inside of aluminium cylinders by the electroplating method. The deposition yield (%) of uranium was studied as a function of the electrical current, electroplating time, uranium concentration and annealing treatment. 238U was determined by neutron activation analysis in samples taken from the plating cell to follow the whole electroplating procedure.
