Synthesis of coumarin dyes containing N-alkylsulfonamide groups

Coumarins containing N-alkylsulfonamide groups built into benzoxazolyl, benzothiazolyl, or benzimidazolyl systems were synthesized and then reacted with NaCN to give fluorescent red compounds. Results from a determination of the spectral properties and dyeing characteristics of these new dyes suggest that they are potential commercial solvent dyes.
