A new type of lithium-ion cell based on the Li4Ti5O12/Li2Co0.4Fe0.4Mn3.2O8 high-voltage, electrode combination

A new type of lithium-ion cell based on the combination of a high voltage spinel Li[Li1/3 Ti5/3]O4 anode with a high voltage mixed spinel solid solution Li2(M1M2)xMn3-xO8 cathode, is described. Although somewhat affected by the instability of the electrolyte in the charge region, the cell operates along the expected voltage levels, this demonstrating the feasibility of this innovative concept in the advanced lithium ion battery technology.
