Abstract :
A hydrogen-bonded supramolecular compound, [Hbet]3[Fe(CN)6]·4H2O, has been synthesized from betaine ((CH3)3N+CH3CO2-) (bet) and K3[Fe(CN)6] and structurally characterized. The crystal structure consists of neutral two-dimensional sheets assembled via hydrogen bonding between the protonated betaine (Hbet+) and the hexacyanoferrate(III) ion, while the hydrogen bonding involving water molecules interlinks the sheets to form a unique three-dimensional supramolecular architecture.
