Abstract :
The compound Ba8(BN2)5F was synthesized from a mixture of the binary components Ba3N2, BaF2, and BN in sealed steel ampoules at 1273 K. The structure was refined from single crystal data. Ba8(BN2)5F crystallizes with the triclinic symmetryP (No. 2) witha=4.204(3) ?,b=20.92(2) ?,c=20.95(2) ?,ALPHA=91.74(6)°,BETA=90.03(6)°,GAMMA=93.12(7)°,Z=4, andV= 1839(2) ?3. The structure is built from isolated BN3-2anions, barium cations, and [Ba2Ba2/2F]5+units.
